Today marks the real start of the new year—the first full week when life settles back into its usual rhythm after the holiday buzz. It’s a time to reflect and decide how you want to shape the months ahead. If you’re like many, resolutions have been part of your New Year’s routine. But let’s be honest: how often do those grand declarations last? This year, I invite you to try something different. Instead of a resolution, adopt a theme—a guiding principle to inspire and align your actions all year long.

Why Resolutions Often Fail

Resolutions can feel empowering in the moment, but their success rate is notoriously low. While nearly half of Americans make New Year’s resolutions, only about 25% of people actually stay committed to their resolutions after just 30 days, according to Columbia University. And even fewer, less than 10%, accomplish their goals.  Why? For starters, many resolutions are overly ambitious without clear steps to achieve them. You’re full of excitement on January 1, but as the demands of daily life return, that enthusiasm often fades.

Another common challenge is the lack of support and accountability. When you’re tackling a big goal alone, it’s easy to lose momentum or feel overwhelmed. And let’s face it, the all-or-nothing mindset that resolutions often bring can be discouraging. If you slip up once, it feels like failure.

Instead of repeating this cycle, consider adopting a theme for your year—a flexible and holistic approach to growth.

The Power of a Theme

A theme is not a rigid goal. It’s a guiding idea that shapes your decisions, habits, and outlook. For example, consider the theme of Impact.

Impact is my theme for 2025 because it encapsulates my desire to positively influence others and bring meaningful change to their lives and mine. This word resonates with me because it represents the ripple effect I hope to create. Whether I’m inspiring others to embrace healthier habits, supporting personal growth, or fostering deeper relationships, Impact serves as my compass for the year ahead.

A theme can influence how you approach your health, career, and personal interests. For example, instead of resolving to “lose 20 pounds,” a theme like Impact encourages you to focus on how your choices affect your vitality and confidence. Instead of promising to “spend less time on social media,” it might inspire you to deepen your connections with loved ones. A theme brings purpose and adaptability, making it easier to stay engaged throughout the year.

Living Your Theme Daily

Themes work best when woven into your daily life, like healthy habits. Here are a few ways to make it happen:

  • Visualize Success: Imagine yourself three, six, or twelve months from now. Who do you want to be? What kind of impact do you want to have on your health, mindset, and relationships?  What changes do you want to see?
  • Set Micro-Goals: Break your theme into small, actionable steps. For example, if your theme is Impact, you could make a nutritious meal plan each week, take a daily walk, or schedule regular coffee chats with friends.
  • Track Progress: Keep a journal to note your achievements. Seeing your growth in alignment with your theme can be incredibly motivating.

Support, Mentorship, and Community

Achieving sustainable change is easier with support. Having a mentor or coach provides guidance and accountability while being part of a community offers encouragement and shared wisdom. This is especially true for professional women navigating busy lives and competing priorities.

That’s why I created the Forever Wellness Lifestyle program. It’s designed to help you stay aligned with your theme by providing tools, coaching, and a community of like-minded women. Together, we tackle nutrition, mindset, movement, meditation, and more. You don’t have to go it alone—I am here to celebrate your small wins and support your big dreams.

How to Create Your Theme and Live It

Ready to choose your theme for 2025? Here’s how you can get started:

  1. Reflect on Your Aspirations: What do you want to feel, achieve, or experience this year? Your theme should resonate with your deepest desires.  Not anyone else’s.
  2. Brainstorm Keywords: Words like Growth, Connection, Vitality, or Balance might inspire you. Choose one that feels right for you.
  3. Align Your Actions: Consider how your theme can guide your daily choices. For example, if your theme is Balance, you might set boundaries around work hours or prioritize self-care rituals.  (It’s a good idea to do that anyway.)
  4. Seek Guidance and Support: Join programs like Forever Wellness Lifestyle to stay motivated and accountable. Having expert guidance can make all the difference.
